Aviation  Vocational Diploma

Designed For: 

Candidates who wish to follow a career in the Fire and Rescue Service.  This training programme does not infer an educational or foundation qualification.

 Entry Criteria:              

There are no pre-requisite qualifications for this course.

 Health and Safety:

Due to the physical nature and demands of this course, members must be physically fit enough to undertake strenuous, physical activities. Course members must attend with suitable and sufficient Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which is appropriate for the risks involved in fire and rescue operations. Alternatively the college can provide PPE for course members.

Aim:                

To develop the knowledge, skills and understanding of the student to be able to operate safely and effectively as a professional fire fighter.

Objectives:      

At the end of the course the course member will be able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and understanding related to;

Firefighting (NFPA 1001 Firefighter 1 and 2) (IFSAC)

Incidents involving Hazardous Materials (NFPA 472 Hazmat Awareness and Hazmat Operations) (IFSAC)

Aviation Incidents (NFPA 1003 Aviation Rescue and Firefighting) (IFSAC)

Breathing Apparatus

Road Traffic Accidents

Industrial Firefighting

First Aid (ASHI)

Health and Safety (IOSH Working Safely Award & IOSH Managing Safety Award).

Course Overview:                    

A comprehensive training course which includes the following subject areas: Firefighting, Hazardous Materials, Aviation firefighting and Rescue, Breathing Apparatus, Road Traffic Accident training, Industrial firefighting, First Aid and Health and Safety.

Presentation and Delivery:

By a combination of interactive lectures, group work, realistic practical demonstration exercises and debriefs, with a strong emphasis on experiential learning and self-directed private study.

Languages:

This course can be provided in: English, Arabic or English with Arabic support.

Course Staff and Facilities:

College staff with the relevant operational and managerial experience and technical knowledge. 

Number of Instructors Required:                     

1 instructor per 6 students

Minimum Number of Course Members:           

Six (6)                   

Assessment and Reporting:

Continuous assessment throughout the course, with feedback being provided to facilitate reflection and personal development. Course member’s reports include a detailed profile of attainment across the range of practical competencies together with marks achieved in written tests with, where appropriate, supplementary examinations.

Course members will undertake a written and practical assessment achieving a minimum pass mark of 60% across the subject matter delivered.  Some elements of the training programme will attract an International Fire Services Accredited Certificate (IFSAC) accreditation gold seal award.

Certification and Awarding Bodies:     

Students will receive ICEM Certificates and, and where necessary, the International Fire Services Accredited Certificate (IFSAC) accreditation gold seal award. ASHI First Aid Certificate, IOSH Working Safely Award & IOSH Managing Safety Award.

Venue:                                                

The International College of Engineering and Management (ICEM).

 Duration:                                             

100 days over 20 weeks

08.30 – 12.30 and 13.30 – 16.30hrs Saturday to Wednesday.
