Airport Crew Commander
Designed For:
Airport Firefighters being considered for promotion or who have been newly appointed as Crew Commanders or for Crew Commanders whose certificate of competence has expired by more than 6 months.
Entry Criteria:
Students should have attended an approved (CAR 139, ICAO 9137) Airport Rescue & Firefighter Course.
Health and Safety:
Due to the physical nature and demands of this course, members must be physically fit enough to undertake strenuous, physical activities. They should also meet the medical criteria as laid down in CAR 139. Course members must attend with suitable and sufficient Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which is appropriate for the risks involved in fire and rescue operations. Alternatively the college can provide PPE for course members.
Aim:
To develop the knowledge, skills and understanding of the student to be able to operate safely and effectively as a Crew Commander and to meet the standards laid down by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO 9137), CAR 139.
Objectives:
At the end of the course the course member will be able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and understanding of a supervisory manager and carry out the role of Airport Crew Commander.
Course Overview:
A comprehensive training course which includes the following subject areas: The Management and Planning of Operational Training, Planning for Future Resource Needs, Functional Leadership, Managing the Safety of Others, Freight Aircraft and Dangerous Goods, Post Accident Investigation, Communications, Helicopters and Breathing Apparatus. This learning programme is approved by DGSAS Oman (Civil Aviation Authority) as meeting the requirements of ICAO 9137 and local CAR 139 requirements.
Presentation and Delivery:
By a combination of interactive lectures, group work, realistic practical demonstration exercises and debriefs, with a strong emphasis on experiential learning and self-directed private study.
Languages:
This course can be provided in: English, Arabic or English with Arabic support.
Course Staff and Facilities:
College staff with the relevant operational and managerial experience and technical knowledge.
Number of Instructors Required:
1 instructor per 6 students
Minimum Number of Course Members:
Six (6)
Assessment and Reporting:
Continuous assessment throughout the course, with feedback being provided to facilitate reflection and personal development.
Course members will undertake a written and practical assessment.
Certification and Awarding Body:
Upon successful completion of training, course members will receive the International College of Engineering and Management Course Certificate. The Certificate is valid for four years.

The International College of Engineering and Management (ICEM).

15 days over 3 weeks

08.30 – 12.30 and 13.30 – 16.30hrs Saturday to Wednesday.
